Have you written a novel or film with just basic writing skills and published it yourself?
I have just finished the first draft to a novel that has taken me 3 years to write. I have had no writing training and was wondering if anyone else out there has self published without a writing background. I also only ever intended the novel to be a film, but realise I have to get the story down first. Has anyone else done this?

Well i have written novels but have never had the urge to publish them. I havent had any writing training but, im naturally a talented writer, and there are many people alike you and I, who dont necessarily need any further than basic educations to be able to write great stories.

I’ve never tried to publish anything, but I know one thing: You’ve only finished one draft! It’s a little too early to be thinking about publishing. You need to edit the crap out of your story before you’re even allowed to HEAR the word ‘publish’ in the context of your novel.
Put your novel aside for a while (like, a month), then come back to it and edit it.
And, just so you know, self publishing is NOT the way to go.
