For NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) are you allowed to write a story using copyrighted characters?

I’ve written fanfiction, but I don’t think that would be allowed for this contest. Just to make sure, does anyone know if you’re allowed to submit an /original/ story of your own using characters that aren’t yours?

I dont think so… I would contact them or somethingt to be sure though.

  2. Pretty Fly Jedi Says:

Definitely make sure because I think they actually look to some of those novels to be published

  3. Lulu Says:

Absolutely not. You said it – the characters belong to the story which is copyrighted material.

I think you are. look around the nanowrimo site. the goal is 50000 words, not necessarily publishability

  5. Kerry Says:

Yes, you can. Obviously they prefer original fiction, but as someone else said, the goal is 50,000 words, not publishability.
