Every time I read war poetry I start to cry and grow mournful Why?

Hey. Every time I read war poetry, especially war poetry involving soldier’s dying and touching war poetry, I begin to get very sad and mournful. I then start to cry.
But, I have a few family members that have served in the military before, but none that were actually K.I.A. or killed or anything. And, they’ve retired, so their not on active duty.
Why is this? Why do I cry and grow sad every time I read any kind of war poetry?

Maybe you sympathize for people that have lost there loved ones in war because you respect it more for having family that has served. That would be my guess.

My father was in WW2 and very proud of his service. He was 74 when he passed 10 years ago. And I get a little misty over war poems and such. But I think they are tears of pride

Aww well maybe one of your ancestors died in war? It’s sometimes said that a certain feeling, like a phobia can pass through generations. Like if someone was afraid of sharks and came in contact with one, one or more of their great grandchildren with be afraid of sharks. I’m not sure if it’s for real, but I heard it from a teacher of mine.
I guess the thought of a loved one dying in war is very sensitive and touching for you. Maybe just thinking about people you know having to die like that is what gets to you?
