    The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

    Interview with the Vampire

    You might enjoy the Dragonlance setting. It’s a very massive series of books by various authors all set in the same fantasy world. I read about 20 of them when I was younger. The first book is Dragons of Autumn Twilight
    (Oh, and they’re making an animated movie out of it that will be out soon) Here’s the Amazon listing. Your local Borders or B&N is guaranteed to have it

    I think that Piers Anthony’s Xanth books are fun reads. Have you read Hero and the Crown, Blue Sword by Robin McKinley?

    How about Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin?

    Anne McCaffrey’s Pern novels with flying dragons that can travel in time as well as around the world of Pern.

    Diane Duane’s So You Want to be a Wizard books.

    I sugest you read Tick Tock or Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. His books require a bit higher class of reader but i suggest you read it because is amazingly good. Odd Thomas is better than Tick Tock but Tick Tock has more action. The genere is Suspence and they’re both fiction. Tick Tock is sorta Sci Fi but still they are both amazing books.

    how old r u anyway? whatever I’m like 15 and ive been reading regular fiction since i was 9, i got tired of the kiddy stuff. anyway Jim Butcher writes an Awsome modern day Sci-Fi series called the Dresdon Files. its about this wizard who hires himself as an investigator for the Chicago PD and helps the Special Investigations with crimes that arent usual. it has faeries and vampires all mixed in with demons and the nevernever, the place where all the things that go bump in the night call home. its a great series. he also writes the Codex Allera, based mostly back in the Dark-ages i guess u can call them, but its no about like knights and stuff. its about the people who have control over these Furies. they help them in thier day-to-day lives. everybody has Furies, and their are wind, water,earth,and fire Furies. All but one person, a 15 year old by has furies and he’s been tormented by it for years. i dont wanna give away too much so ill stop there. i will tell you he’s no ordinary boy and he’s about to take the adventure of his life.

    This is not meant to be mean to you. It says more to the authors of the books than it does to you. But if you have grown very mature for your young age, why don’t you start reading mature books like classics? Anne Rice’s retelling of Beauty and the Beast is the biggest piece of garbage on earth. It has absolutely nothing to do with the BDSM lifestyle. It is spanking and punishing. There is no love, no respect, nothing in those books. They are the joke of the lifestyle, and I know because I have participated in it for more than 30 years. They are total crap. And the strange part is that it was pretty well known that Anne Rice and her husband lived that lifestyle themselves. Why she didn’t write the truth is beyond me. Sighs.

    Anyway if you are mature and a good reader, then you should begin reading the classics. You are going to have to read them for school anyway and you will enjoy them and you will be ahead of yourself. If you like that BDSM kind of guy, read Wuthering Heights. Heathcliffe is a better Dom than anything in the Anne Rice books. Read Turn of the Screw. Another better Dom. Read Pride and Prejudice. Read Anna Karenenia. Read Beloved. Song of Solomon. Read Frankenstein and the REAL Dracula. Read Emma and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. AIf you are the mature reader you say you are, once you start reading classics, you will fall in love with them. They are so much more sophisticated than most of the junk out there now … the stories are deep and rich. You will fall in love with the heros. You will laugh and cry. And you will be doing yourself a favor because you will be that much ahead in school. Seriously, toss that paperback junk aside. You will be shocked at how bad most of it is when you start reading literature. Pax- C

    SF & Fantasy:
    “Tinker” by Wen Spencer (actually, anything by this author - trust me, you’ll love this one);
    “Sabrial”,”Lirael” and “Abhorsen” by Garth Nix (may be in adult and/or teen section - Lirael is one of my favorites - the library of my dreams - and I would love to meet the Disreputable Dog!);
    “Covenant” and “The Kings Own” by Lorna Freeman;
    “Devlin’s Luck”, “Devlin’s Honor” and “Devlin’s Justice” by Patricia Bray;
    “Hobb’s Bargain” by Patricia Briggs (anything by this author);
    “Page” by Tamora Pierce (actually anything by her - this woman has never written a bad book - I don’t know why it took me so long to really look at her work - probably in teen section);
    “Dark Angel” by Meredith Ann Pierce (may be in either teen or adult section);
    “Archer’s Goon” by Diane Wynne Jones (anything by this author) (probably in teen section);

    Adventure/History/Fantasy:
    “Bloody Jack” by Louis A. Meyer (give this one a chance - I’ve got a feeling you’ll love it - the whole series is excellent);
    “A Vision of Light” by Judith Merkle Riley (probably in fiction - give this one a chance too - another gem - again, all her books are wonderful);
    “A Bridge of Birds” by Barry Hughart - this gets shelved all over the place, but your library should have it. Wonderful.

    Mystery:
    “Down the Rabbit Hole” and “Behind the Curtain” by Peter Abrahams
    “Welcome to Temptation” by Jennifer Crusie (again, this gets shelved all over, may be in fiction, may be in romance, may be in mystery - I love all her books, but this is her masterpiece)

    Enjoy!
