War Fiction’

Good World War 2 fiction books?

Hey I’ve been really interested in World War 2 and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for fiction books that take place during the war. I read Atonement and really liked that. And I also just saw the movie Australia and I really enjoyed that. So anything along those lines, I would really appreciate it. It can take place either in the United States or elsewhere. Thank you!
I do like love stories and I’m particularly fascinated by the nurses and hositals.

I am looking for fiction stories about World War Romance?

Particularly ones involving nurses. can be english, american, etc., novels or online writings. Think Pearl Harbor, Atonement, English Patient type of stuff. I am a sucker for this kind of romance but I am unable to find anything online or in bookstores just searching on my own.

Looking for a Young Adult Civil War Fiction Series?

I’m looking for a series of books I read in about 6th grade. They were about the Civil War, and told the story of two young boys, one white and one black, who were friends with one another despite the racial differences and the time period. I believe it was a five book series. I read the books approximately 7 - 8 years back, but I can’t recall their names or author.

Perhaps something to do with “red haired” or “captive” or “slave,” and I believe “series” was included in the general title of each.

Thanks for your help. =)

Can anyone recommend some good SCHOLARLY, NON-FICTION war history books (not novels)?

Some I’ve read are:
Chandler–The Campaigns of Napoleon
Shelby Foote–The Civil War, 3 vols.
Stephen Sears–Chancellorsville; Landscape Turned Red: Antietam; Gettysburg
Victor Davis Hansen–A War Like No Other
Adrian Goldsworthy–The Punic Wars
Cornelius Ryan–Longest Day; A Bridge Too Far

I’m looking for narrative accounts of specific battles or campaigns (any era or locale), based on solid research. Thank you for your suggestions!

What’s the name of this fiction book for teens about nuclear war aftermath?

In 1989 or so, a friend read a book about teenagers and their parents going through a nuclear war. I don’t remember much about it, except the friend got it through my elementary school’s library, and it mentioned refugee camps of some sort.
