How to properly format a short story (fiction) for electronic submission?

A particular publisher requests that a short story be submitted via email, attached as a Word document, with a short bio in the body of the email. Formatting is not specified.

Knowing this, I am wondering how to properly format the short story document. In particular: 1) what is the recommended font type and size, 2) should page numbers be included, 3) single or double spaced, and 4) include a cover page (and with what, name and title) or just start the story on the first page since they already have my bio.

Thank you for any feedback, this is a tough topic to find on Google

Short story idea - Needs to be realistic fiction, ‘deeper’ subject for Adv. English class?

Self explanatory…

Anyways I would like it to be a deeper subject then just the usual short stories.

I was thinking of a story about a Jewish girl’s experience in the holocaust but I couldn’t condense it enough for a short story.

PLEASE HELP! All ideas welcomed!!

What do you think about my short science fiction story? (about 1 page)?

It’s called “Answers”

The human civilization is contacted by anadvanced alien civilization and offers to answer three questions.

The Answers (Science Fiction)

On Monday, February 16, 2013, at 8:05 am, a junior radar operator in a secret US anti-missile defense facility, 40 miles east of Virginia in the Atlantic Ocean, has witnessed the radar screen turning black. After a brief moment, the number pi appeared on the screen with large number of digits after the period. Following strict instructions, the officer sounded an emergency alarm.
The antennas of on this base have been sending the radio wave signals into the open space, representing the pi number 3,14. The intent of sending this universally known constant was to potentially get detected by intelligent civilizations. On this usual Monday, an intelligent reply has been detected by the radio receiver and the screen of this young officer. The reply contained the pi number, with 159 digits after the period.
At 8:35am, when full attention of the base personnel has been directed to the screen displaying the number, the screen has gone off and the officer, who received the initial message, has suddenly fallen off the chair. When medical personnel expected the body, it was found to be alive but unconscious. The officer woke up like nothing happened in about an hour. He complained of a slight headache, but otherwise had no pains or aches. The officer immediately said that he received an instruction to deliver to people on Earth.
An emergency meeting of national security and defense officials, along with the U.S. president took place at noon. The officer, Nickolai Sylvanosky, reported that the visiting entities that initiated the contact this morning had a message to Earth people. They were to provide the most accurate and up to date information and knowledge Earth people desire to know. The next contact with occur with Nick exactly 44 earth’s revolutions from now.
When Nick was asked if there was any other intent from the visitors, he had no answer. He denied having any memories of how he learned or received this message.
In the following days, the message has been announced throughout the World. An international meeting took place in Oslo, Norway, where leading officials and representatives from all countries discussed how to respond to the message. Leading scientists, artists and other representatives attended the meeting. It appeared that there was a great deal of conflict, as to what 3 questions people should ask. Each practiced religion tried to ask of confirmation of their God’s existence. Christian leaders wanted to know what date the Christ will return.
Special free phone lines have been stabled where people could call and offer a question they thought was important to ask.
A large number of earth citizens seemed to agree that a cure for cancer was important to know.

What is the name of this short science fiction story?

It was something I read years ago by a famous science fiction writer

It had these two kids in the future finding a book and not knowing what it is because books become obsolete
Even more confusing it was in a book “50 Short Science Fiction Tales by a variety of authors. In fact, it was the first story in the book.

I do have the book somewhere, but it might be in my old room at my parents’ house
It wasn’t Henry Kuttner. It would be a name anyone would recognize like Isaac Asimov or H.G. Wells. In fact, it might even be one of them but Wikipedia was no help
davches - YES! Thanks to both of you

What print magazines take short stories for publication in the US?

I write a little and want to get a little exposure. I know that there are web magazines that take drama and sci fi, but I wanted to see if there were any print magazines that still take short stories in fiction. If so, what are their web addresses?
