Can you make any money from writing fan-fiction?
I’ve written a few fan-fics.. simply for fun! and I was wondering if they could be published or anything?
I dont want to put them on fanfic.net
Ruroni K has the right idea
my fanfics have a very unique spin on the originals.
and take Batman for example, that was created in the 30s/40s obviously Nolan wasnt there at the start!
I’m not planning on publihing these I’m just wondering

No, you cannot.
The authors and book companies would sue you faster than you can say oops.
That is why, with every fanfiction, you have to write a disclaimer saying you don’t own their material.

No. That would be illegal. You’d be making money off of another author’s original work.

Fan-fics that are free on the internet have protection, since you’re not making any money off it and it’s purely for entertainment. That’s fair use. Unless you have permission from the author, it will very well possibly cross into copyright infringement, if you make money off it.

From a fanfiction no, but if you spin the story into your own unique series yes you can.

Well, sorta.
I think you have to get permission from the author because, there is this guy named Micheal Gerber, and he wrote a series called ‘Barry Trotter’ and it’s like a parody of Harry Potter, but he uses different names, and it’s a comedy book, and it’s different plots….
But that doesn’t really count as fanfic. More like a parody.
So
Fanfics = Nope.
But you can try and write a paraody of a book and then contact the author, see what he/she says.

No, you can not publish or make money from writing them.
With fanfictions, you’re simply using characters and/or a world that someone else created, which are both copyrighted to the author, not to you.
Since, you didn’t come up with the characters or the world yourself, you”re not allowed to publish it, since it’s not full of your ideas. You’re still allowed to write them and post them online, but there is no way that you will be allowed to publish it for money. Even if you ask the author of the series you’re fanfiction is based, they’re likely not going to give you permission for publishing and getting money from it.
EDIT: the only way you can make money from something that you write is if you publish it.

YES, you can. But there are some important things you have to cover NOT to get sued. You can publish fanfiction if:
1) You have permission from the creator
2) It is a parody (like Space Balls vs Star Wars)
3) A work is public domain
For more on public domain, read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain but basically, something like…Dracula is old enough that it is public domain, so you could write fanfiction on that and not need any permission (special circumstances may apply)
