Can anyone recommend me some books to read?
I have read and enjoyed: Count of Monte Crisco, Crime and Punishment, Sherlock Holmes series, Janet Evanovich’s series, Catch-22, The Joy Luck Club, Flags of Our Fathers, The Alchemist
I have read didn’t really like: Patricia Cornwell’s books, Woman’s Murder Club, Sue Grafton books
Hated: Kathy Reich’s books, and some over dramatized women drama. Hate Jane Auten’s , Other Boleyn Girl, Twilight
I love Fiction, mystery, classic, historical/fiction, and comedy. What would be good for me?

The Thirteenth Tale is amazing has two interesting female leads. Its sort of dark and twisty a bit southern gothic and it keeps you guessing till the end. I couldn’t put it down
The Historian is a thriller but different than your average mystery novel. It’s all about a girl and her father who are tracking Vlad the Impaler. It’s got a lot of history and some action with some supernatural thrown into the mix. Another book I couldn’t put down very good.
The Time Travelers Wife is an amazing book. The lead is male but it has a great Woman character and a really good love story…its not sappy oh life is great love story its real love with all the problems and hardships that go along with it. I hate “chick lit” and this isn’t that kind of book
The Book Thief—strong female lead…it’s about Germany during world war II death is the narrator it’s really beautifully written and heart breaking and inspiring. Technically it’s a young adult book but I didn’t know that when I bought it and didn’t find out till after I finished…you would never know by the writing.
If you like Janet Evonovitch’s books you would totally love all of Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next novels. They have that same fun fearless not perfect female lead that I love to read (and I love all the Janet Evonovich books)
White Oleander also has some really amazing strong unique Female leads. It’s a hard book to explain but it is beautifully written.
just read You Suck a Love Story and it was hysterical it’s a comedy and love story about Vampires.
Thank you for smoking by Christopher Buckly. They came out with a movie based on the book but the movie was turned into some sort of sappy father son bonding thing it was awful and they ruined one of my favorite books. Now I no the title sounds weird but this is an AMAZING satire about the Lobby Industry in Washington and taboos about smoking drinking and guns—it holds no punches and at times I literally laughed out loud at the book.

Micheal Crichton is a good author, but he writes science fiction, which you might not like. He wrote Jurassic Park and Conga. Another good series is The Guardians of Time Trilogy, amazing.

Kidnapped would be a good choice of you liked the Count of Monte Christo (not to be confused with Crisco which is an artificial shortening
). The Alchemist might lead you to enjoy The Little Prince. It is in the same vein . . . sort of. I don’t know I liked it and its only like 80 pages so give it a shot lol.

An amazing book is Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews.
It’s a book based on a real story.
Basically about a perfect family… happy life yada yada yada. Then the father dies. The mother being this perfect housewife type doesn’t know how to support her family so has to go try and win the favor of her rich father, who has HATED her ever since she married (you find out why later in the story)
Her father can’t find out about her children so when they go to the huge manor house where he lives the four kids have to hide in the attic. The mother promises it will only be for a day or two, but the days turn into weeks, weeks to months e.c.t.
Gradually the mother seems to forget why she loved her children so much in the first place…
This book is really good. However it has lots of mentions of abuse and sex so I would rate it P.G.
