Can anyone give me some names of good Historical Fiction novels that have to do with Japan?
I have to write a book report on a Historical Fiction novel, and I am really into Japan. Could give me the name of a Historical Fiction novel on Japan that can be read in about a week? I wanted to read James Clavell’s Shogun, but it’s way too long…

‘Shogun’ it is.
‘Confessions of a Geisha,’ but maybe that’s too ’spicy’ for a youngster.
By the way, Clavell wrote ‘King Rat’ first, about the time when he was a prisoner of war in a Japanese internment camp. Brutal stuff. Good movie (with William Holden).
If you ever have to do a paper on early Hong Kong, read his book ‘Tai Pan’ (terrible movie, by the way, with Brian Brown of ‘Breaker Morant’ fame).

Dorothy Hoobler writes teen books set during the same time period in Japan as “Shogun.” “The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn,” “The Demon in the Teahouse,” “In Darkness, Death,” “”A Samurai Never Faces Death,” and “The sword that cut the burning grass” — all set during the Tokugawa Period.
Here’s another one: “The revenge of the forty-seven samurai” by Erik Christian Haugaard: “A fourteen-year-old serving boy finds himself surrounded by suspicion and betrayal as his master gathers a group of samurai to avenge Lord Asano’s death.”
If teen books aren’t going to cut it, there’s another adult author writing about samurais, and the books are shorter. Dale Furutani wrote “Death at the Crossroads,” “Jade Place Vendetta,” and “Kill the Shogun.”
I hope that helps.
