BrainPOP UK & The 100 Word Challenge team have worked together to provide the #100wc challenge for 16th May 2012. The "100WC" is a weekly creative writing challenge for children under 16 years of age. Each week a prompt is given, which can be a picture or a series of individual words and the children can use up to 100 words to write a creative piece. This should be posted on a class blog and then linked to the 100 Word Challenge blog. The link is usually open from midnight on Wednesdays until midnight the following Tuesdays. Your real life, good, instincts, comfort, survival, healthy equilibrium do not guide you well in fiction, they keep you from writing your character into real danger. Getting hurt or loosing what is important to them. We instinctual stop ourselves from putting the protagonist into real danger. To write a story where your reader has to find out what is going to happen. The instincts that keep you fed, under a roof, safe, will lead you away from good writing. So override those instincts, the kick in, you think you way out of fictional danger, up the aute, sitting on the edge of their seat. Write your character into the worse thing that could happen. An exercise. Also write the best thing that can happen. Also write the best thing that could happen, they reach all their goals, better than the best place, their dreams come true. Two sides to suspense. Best case scenario, worse case scenario.Creative writing/ storytelling tutorial for the multimedia age. The writing strategies offered in these tutorials can also be applied to podcasting, film work, storyboarding, cartooning, etc. but they are still very much about writing. It requires a lot from you.... "It requires you to dig deep inside of you and figure out what's possible--what you can do." Compton calls the process satisfying, interesting, and difficult, and frustrating all at once. "I think it has to be that way. It's what makes the insights that come out of the writing valuable. It's that they're hard-won.... "Seeing it all the way through to publication is a wonderful thing. What I didn't realize at first is that there's another step beyond publication, even.
