Creative Writing - poetry writers Questions

Question #1:

Is the true meaning of life to have something worth living for, dying for, or both?

I just watched an old film called "The Petrified Forest", in it, actor Leslie Howard echo's the sentiment of
having both something to live for, and to die for. Is it just the poetry of the writer, or does it have a deeper
meaning?

Question #2:

How can I properly prepare and submit my writing to a publisher?

I'm an aspiring writer who writes poetry and currently short stories. After time I plan to write full novels. I would like to know the smartest and safest way to prepare and submit my writing to a publisher without having to worry about my ideas being stolen.
Key Answers I'm Looking For:
- How do I know my work is properly prepared?
- How do I submit my work to a publisher?
- What precautions do I take to ensure my work is safe?

All relevant responses are welcome. Thank you to all who offer your input.

Question #3:

Writers: do you ever stop fluctuating between complete egotism and complete self-hatred about your work?

I am an undergraduate majoring in poetry composition, and as a result, producing work and receiving feedback constantly. Some days, I feel equal to Shakespeare. Others, I feel like I'm not good enough to write at all. These emotions rarely even have any environmental triggers. It's just that some days, the positive reviews I receive seem more important than the negative. Other days, vice versa. Very much so. It's a lousy, bipolar feeling. Does it ever level out to something more reasonable?

Question #4:

Finding a job with Asperger's Syndrome?!?

How do I find a job that I can do well but alone?

I already tried looking into library jobs..but there aren't any I qualify for. Everytime I get a job, no matter how much I love the actual job, I have serious communication issues no matter what. I misunderstand everything apparently and automatically assume everyone hates me. I can't seem to break out of it.

*I am horrible at math and science although science intrigues me
*I am a published author of two poetry books but I seem to have hit a writers block and make very little royalties on my first two
I'd love to go to college but cannot afford it. I was denied financial assistance

Question #5:

I'm looking for a writing buddy, to share our writing back and forth, five advice, tip, ideas, ect...?

I'm looking for a writing buddy, some who I can share my writing work with, and have you share yours with with me, to give advice to each other about the writing. Also for things such as tips, and sites that we've found, contests we've stumbled across, help with writer's block and ideas, basically anything and everything about writing! -^^- I'm playing around with some novel ideas currently, but I also occasionally write poetry, or short stories.
It'd be awesome if you were beginning a novel as well, but as long as you write, I'm happy. I'm 15, so I'd like someone around the same age as me, it make the most sense.
Please email me at nwolanski@live.com, or give me a way to contact you if you answer this question, thank-you! <33
If several people want to do this, it'd be even better in a little group! I just want to have a more personalized relationship, (I know it sounds creepy, lol, i don't mean it to be!) aka: email each other more frequently then the huge online writing site members message each other, and have a broader range to talk about, like tips and contests, ect.. :]

Question #9:

Poetry - is inspired impromptu poetry better than constructed and formed poetry?

Your thoughts, preferably poetic responses. Do you write blindly without proof reading your own text and read thoughts as alien to you as the blind rage inciting you to write. Is it then the writer becomes also the reader of its own dispossession, kindly illumine me on this curious philosophical pyramid of many paths in defining a truth, a pattern of thought, a path and journey?

I've been a regular writer for a while but my friend invited me up to a slam poetry competition and I'm a bit clueless. She says they have to be 3 minutes long, so roughly how many words would that be? I mean I know I can't get an exact answer, but a general idea to shoot for would be...?

Question #13:

What do you guys think of this [rough draft] poem?

I asked this question a few days ago and didn't get many answers so I figured I might as well ask again.
I have an assignment for english class to write an original poem that includes poetic elements such as personification, symbolism, similes, etc. I love to read poetry, but I don't regard myself as a good writer. What do you think of this poem? Comments and suggestions, please!

"Skirts as Searing as Girls"
Oh, cruel, cramped pencil skirt,
Your fabric dips below my mountained knees,
my poor knees, burying themselves just as you demanded.
Your interlocked design laughs at me,
just like you do everyday.
Your ugly face resides as the round of my back.
Your stingy rumor disguises itself as the curvature of my thighs.
Your domineering abilities become the folds of my calves.
Your grip is like the choke of death in the last few seconds of life.
...And some say black is slimming.

Question #17:

Am I too smart for my age?

Sorry for commencing with a fallacious query, but I wanted to utilize an effective way to capture your attention. I will try to make this as concise as possible (though I will probably not succeed).

I have previously been home schooled for the majority of my life (excluding first grade) because of my parents reluctance to position me in an intense social environment. They have finally consented to sending me to school, and I am rather apprehensive. Most of my peers that I have interacted with have ostracized me and no longer speak to me, notwithstanding that these interactions were predominantly church related. I am worried that I will not be intelligent enough for the private school I am attending and that I do not possess the requisite social skills. In addition to this, the school that I have been accepted to has a percentage of over half of the students being highly gifted, the remaining being gifted. I am entering at the eighth grade which is the most competitive grade for this school. I will enumerate the subjects that I have completed and please tell me if I can tolerate the immense pressure that I have thrusted upon myself.

Mathematics:
I have currently begun studying calculus so that I will have and advantage over the other, smarter students.
Please note I have gained a somewhat high level of proficiency at all previous categories in Mathematics.

Grammar:
I know the properties of grammar and I hope I am employing it correctly.

Literature:
I have begun reading Chaucer, Byron, Bacon's Essays, and some of Plutarch. I have read all of Jane Austen's books, and many of the prominent literary writers works (id est Charles Dickens).

Spelling, Vocabulary, and Poetry:
These three I find rather easy because memorization is all that is involved.

HIstory:
I have learned about all the major time periods in history ( exempli gratia Ancient, Medieval, and Modern) and am very intrigued by U.S. HIstory;I own multiple books on the Revolutionary War (my favorite topic focus), and I enjoy most anything containing information on the Civil War.

P.S. I enjoy a wide variety of history books, especially after Herodotus introduced me to Ancient HIstory.

Science:
I am currently studying Biology, Evolutionary Concepts, and other things relating to that.

P.S. I definitely believe in Creationism.

I would like to request that you do not gain the impression that I am looking for a pronouncement of precociousness, because my parents have told me that numerous times, but compared to other children, frankly I do not believe it. Thank you to all those who respond!

As an afterthought, I will be posting different inquiries on different aspects of returning to school.
Too clarify on the subject, my interactions with other people have been limited as I have listed, the only people I know (as I have previously stated) do not communicate with me anymore. I am not trying to vaunt my knowledge, so forgive me if that was your interpretation.
Night Otter any other belief besides Creationism is absolutely erroneous. If evolution (it does not even deserve capitalization) was correct, then why has it been modified from the Theory of Spontaneous Generation to Abiogenesis as opposed to Biogenesis. All fossils of purported lower formations of human life have been proved to either be human, a mutated monkey, or some other species. Actually, some studies have proven that "Neanderthal man" was in reality built more superiorly than the modern equivalent homo sapiens. In all manner of truth and solemnity, I can righteously say you are a nincompoop.
Sorry for another lengthy addition to my monologue, but Serendipity I typically converse like how I am currently doing and I am not making a feigned attempt at using "professional" grammar and definitions. I suppose you were insinuating my usage of id est instead of i.e. and exempli gratia in lieu of e.g. As an example, I prefer saying quod erat demonstrandum in preference of q.e.d. This is merely my personality and it is by no means superficial.
Don I am certainly conscious that war is only a part of actual History. I have learned many other things about History not related to martial combat. Thank you for the comment and I would like to inquire what skills you believe I should cultivate. Any suggestions will be tremendously appreciated.
Also I read "From Colony to Superpower" by George C. Herring, I thought that that was a meticulous analysis of the United States of America's history, commencing from 1776 of course.

Question #18:

Hi so I'd like to Major in Law and was wondering where should I begin my search ?

Mkay so in a nutshell I plan on becoming a lawyer some day. I'd also like to minor in Creative Writing / English (I'm not so sure what's the correct term for it). However I write fairly well and I'd love to become a writer someday. That being said, which colleges / universities should I be looking into ? I'm a sophomore, wicked smart (though my grades my beg to differ :/), play zero sports but I am into poetry. I'm sure I'll score exceptionally high on my SATs and my guidance counselors are of no use.

P.S. I am not so stupid as to use Yahoo Answers as my only source for college ! Of course I'll look into things and ask around, browse sites, etc. So please no sassy comments.
ps I was born, raised, and live currently in central florida. If that's of any help. :o

Question #19:

Legality of Fan Fictions?

I am a writer. I write a lot. I create my own worlds (currently finished developing a science fiction world, now working on a fantasy world), I write my own novels (currently working on one), I write my own short stories and poetry as well. I am working on a website (I am a web developer) and I intend to potentially sell certain ones in the form of E-Books. One thing I really want to write are some fan fictions. Meaning directly state in the text that it is a fan fiction of some sort. The two fictions I have my eye on are the Shadowrun and Ad&D pen and paper RPG's. However I might want to write fan fiction related to Inuyasha, or Avatar, or X-Men or whatever else (Especially X-Men).

What is the legality behind "Fan Fiction". I am "pretty" sure if I write something adn claim it's fan fiction then try to sell it in an E-Book I could get in trouble, because the characters are copyrighted?

What about for free. If I write some fan fiction and put it on my site as fan fiction, is that legal? If I am selling other novels and stuff that are my own creation but still have fan fiction is that ok?

Question #20:
