Question #6:

Have you heard about Young Albert?

YOUNG ALBERT

Poor Albert was a shy young lad, who didn't mix too well,
And when he started his new school, his classmates made life hell.
He liked to draw, he liked to write, he liked to read and think -
The others liked football and sports, so he was "out-of-sync".

The other pupils thought him "odd", they mocked his speech, his looks.
He had no friends amongst his peers; his only friends were books.
But there was one to whom he dearly wished he could relate -
A girl he hoped to find the nerve to ask out on a date.

A mere three desks away from him sat lovely Lucy Brown -
At last the lad dared ask her out - she flatly turned him down!
"I don't go out with geeks or freaks", she had so cruelly said,
In his humiliation Albert wished that he was dead.

A bitter lesson Albert learned on that most fateful day,
At times the "game of life" is one that's very hard to play.
So he withdrew into himself - he set his face like stone,
And where he walked, fate had decreed that he should walk alone.

In school one day the teacher said "a poem all shall write -
Profundity should be your aim, avoid the bland or trite".
Young Albert set to work and, lo - at his endeavour's end,
He'd far exceeded teacher's goal - a mighty work he'd penned.

His poem spoke of life and love, of all its hopes and fears -
And all who read the poignant work could scarce hold back their tears.
In stately rhyme, young Albert's words had struck a common cord,
With phrase so keen he proved the pen cuts deeper than the sword!

Word of his poem spread beyond the confines of the class.
Some said his verse would wring a tear from eyes made out of glass.
It didn't take too long 'til it was known throughout the school,
They hailed it as a "masterpiece" - regarded it as "cool".

"Best ode we've ever read", they said, "such first-class poetry,
It should be printed in a book - for all posterity!".
At last a publisher was sought to set the work in print -
"Should write some more", their spokesman said, "you'd make yourself a mint".

But Albert never wrote again - he'd hit "creator's slump".
The fact was that, in truth, he was a "spring" and not a "pump".
In that one burst of brilliance he'd said all he had to say,
And what he'd said could not be said in any better way.

Young Albert died at seventeen - struck down by some "malaise" -
But God, we're told, often moves in such mysterious ways.
In years to come when his school "chums" have fallen prey to time,
They'll be forgot - but Albert's name will live on through his rhym
Shucks, guys. It's a slightly revised re-post. Lemme go - don't call the cops.
Sorry, the last word should be rhyme. Full stop.

Question #7:

Reliable poetry publishers?

I know this question has been asked alot and i know to stay away from poetry.com, but I am really interested in publishing a few of my poems to either magazines or books. I also know that they pay like $5 or less after submission but i really just want people to see my work and let it affect them. Money isn't really important to me; but it would be nice to have a little profit from my poem. I just don't want any publishers that will rip me off. I also didn't know if there were any young adult magazines that would take my poetry; but im not limiting myself to just young adult magazines. Thank you very much!!

A poem found on Mars, by Richard Brotbeck, author and publisher for Tangled Web Press.

On the Badger!
Sweepers, sweepers
Man your brooms!
Sweep the Badger
Fore and aft!
Sweep all ladders,
Lower decks and passageways!
On the Badger!
Now sweepers!

Question #11:

I really enjoy writting poetry and wondering about some things a publisher may know?

I write poetry that falls in the same genre as Poe, Yeats later works and the likes (only much less elegant.) I dont want to post anything on here because I want to get it copywritten and hopefully one day published. Been writting since I was little and enjoy it and am glad I feel I am improving. So does anyone know of a good way to get things copywritten for hopefully cheap. I had a few things get published in high school from winning contests and so on. But how about now. My life is also very busy. I am 20, married, have a 2 year old, trying to learn japanese and am in the military durning ait stage and will be in school (ait) for the next 7 months so maybe something online. Thanks

Question #13:

HEY, SELF IMPORTANT PUBLISHERS... Will you read my words and anoint me as one of the future "masters"?

.
.

art galleries
are remote places
an offense to many
and these hush tones
mocking pretenses
regret does not hide well here

I want to go to a poetry gallery
and see the words
framed and clear
dressed for scrutiny
and listen to the voices
protesting forms
condemning structures
proclaiming astuteness

as if they had the balls
to gut themselves

I doubt they could
fill a scratch pad
with honesty

as heavily indebted
to their pathos,
as they are
writers have balls
.
.
kahnefan...I was about to pay attention to you, but no....as you have never asked or answered a SINGLE post in poetry, get some weight and come back...in the mean time...my balls are here

Question #14:

I want to publish my poetry. Where can I found a publisher? Someone said I should find one, but how?

I am in college, and maybe if i get my poetry published, maybe I can use this money to make college a little better. So if you know a website, or something. Please. I am desperate. Thanks for reading

Question #15:

I have a great idea for a book of modern poetry. How do I go about publishing?

Let me explain..

I was raped when I was younger, and Ive compiled tons of (ifI do say so myself, as I have gotten MANY great compliments) good poems...mostly dark romantic, about being in love with the boy who raped me, about losing my grandmother, about falling in love with another boy after that, about depression, andout getting over these struggles...I have also compiled a ton of paintings, sketches, collages...these, too, very modern type art and dark romantic.

My dream is to publish this book. It will probably appeal more to teens, though I have been told it is great by adults as well.
How do I go about finding a publisher, and publishing my work?
Oh, Im sorry if I gave a bad impression..This isn't about victimization...I just wrote a lot of poems and I would love to publish them. My friends read them for fun, they nicknamed me Sylvia lol

Question #16:

Is it more cost-effective to print out a manuscript at home or at FedEx Kinko?

I have a manuscript for a book about Polish Jewish poetry that works out to just shy of a hundred pages, double spaced, Times New Roman at 12 point. I have a Hewlett-Packard printer at home that takes 74 and 74XL ink cartridges, and I have more reams of paper than I need in the near future. I plan to send the manuscript to three different publishers more or less simultaneously.

Question #17:

Publishing poetry...who, where, when...help!!!?

Ok.... I have a few questions, really.

1. When do you think would be a good point to get a poetry collection published? I'm a teenager writer, and this will be my 1st time trying to get anything published. I have roughly 100 poems written and edited.

2. Where would I get it published? Does any ol' book publishing company publish poetry? Are there any that are more popular than others? I know some book publishers are more popular than others. Can you recommend any?

3. How would I get it published? Would I go to a publisher's webiste and contact them via email? Or would I do something else? I don't think many publishers would be in a phonebook...

I feel really stupid not knowing any of this.... I'm a relatively popular poet online and I'd like to make my debut. I've sent one in to a newspaper and received positive feedback, as well as sent a few to magazines. So I think my debut should be coming around sooner or later. Thanks for your time! :]

Question #18:

best ways and places to expose my poetry?

apart from submitting your work to competitions and publishers, are there any avenues for exposure [such as personal websites, blogging?] that anyone has used and could recommend?
i ask as i wish to get my work out there but i am searching for an alternative to blind manuscript submission or competitions..

thank you!

Question #19:

Any poetry/story sites for the amateurs?

I write a lot of poems and stories and have been told that they are really good (my proffesor suggested sending them to publishers).
Anyway, I was wondering if there are any sites on the web that are purposely designed for amateur writers to submit their work?

Question #20:

How to contact a poetry publisher near me?

Im in the process of making my own book but need to find out how to contact a poetry publisher over the phone or email. Just to see what's needed before I present my book.
