Question #2:

Do you wann a DO something? Do you wanna have a poetry contest?

So, here's the thing:
We can start a trophy chain letter, snail mail.
We have a contest; any poem, any style.
You win, you judge the next one, sign your name, graffiti, whatever, mail it on to the winner.
I'm just not sure where to post the poems, besides in Y!A, and whether they should be Q's or A's.
Of course, I will be the first judge.
If you are afraid of your address being "public", then you do not understand that the internet is a good and wholesome place that where nobody would EVER do anything malicious or hateful.

K

I'll first need a mother, a father, a captain, and some old guy that I can send the stuff to.

The sunkissed horizon
at the break of dawn
watcihng the waves silently rolling in
sitting on the cold sand
awaiting to feel the warmth of the morning sun
The smell of the fresh water and wet sand
the shores of the Great Lakes

The snowflakes slowly descend from the heavens
swiftly falling
side by side
only to collect on the treetops
In Northern Michigan

The rolling green hills
the feilds of vegetation
the dense woods.
The eagles wings spread fully
gliding over the treetops
spots the deer below
The deer, swiftly, gracefully, silently moving through the dense collection of dead foliage
steping over the branches and twigs that lie beneath the newly fallen snow.
Leaving behind them, the track of their hooves.

Question #6:

I'm looking for a writing buddy, to share our writing back and forth, five advice, tip, ideas, ect...?

I'm looking for a writing buddy, some who I can share my writing work with, and have you share yours with with me, to give advice to each other about the writing. Also for things such as tips, and sites that we've found, contests we've stumbled across, help with writer's block and ideas, basically anything and everything about writing! -^^- I'm playing around with some novel ideas currently, but I also occasionally write poetry, or short stories.
It'd be awesome if you were beginning a novel as well, but as long as you write, I'm happy. I'm 15, so I'd like someone around the same age as me, it make the most sense.
Please email me at nwolanski@live.com, or give me a way to contact you if you answer this question, thank-you! <33
If several people want to do this, it'd be even better in a little group! I just want to have a more personalized relationship, (I know it sounds creepy, lol, i don't mean it to be!) aka: email each other more frequently then the huge online writing site members message each other, and have a broader range to talk about, like tips and contests, ect.. :]

Question #7:

I'm 15 and entered a poetry contest... Tips On How To Present The Poem W/o Looking Like an Idiot?

This Is My Poem...
I dont know how to present it w/o looking like an idiot... any tips??????

Our eyes hold secrets but also
they are the pathways to our hearts
where love lives so deep within,
flowering like a rose.
Is not heaven the same? Filled with roses;
sweet, fragrant roses, the blissful petals
without the thorns carried on Earth.
The thorns that test our basest faith
Depth is only used
to describe a rose
And the purist of such
used only describe the heavens

The sweet scent
the blissful petals
the touch of a thorn

The earth
soil
the roots of the flower
the beggining of our jorney
go side by side
we firmly plant our faith as the foundation of our lives.
The Thorns, life's obstacles,
pains,
the troubles that challenge our faith and knowledge.
The Flowering buds, Heaven, the end of our journey,
blooming to embrace us.
Eternal Love, The greatest reward, .
a gift upon reaching the heights

Question #14:

Are these poems good?

I am entering a poetry contest. I am not trying to win, I just get extra credit from my teacher for entering. So before I entered these I wanted to make sure i wasnt embarassing myself. I wrote them up very quickly.

The first one is about cross country
the second is a childrens poem
and the thrid is about loosing a friend

As I step up to the line
And the wind blows through my hair
All time stops
I don’t have a care

The starter begins to yell
And I lean back on my feet
“Boom!”, the gun explodes
And here begins the meet

The first mile goes by fast
My legs feel like wings
As I race through the trees
And the cheering crowd sings

The next mile begins
With a steep uphill
My legs begin to weaken
And there’s more still

As I overcome each obstacle
I become more and more weak
My mind screams “stop”
And my legs are beat

With one mile to go
Victory is in my grasp
But I know that to win
A few opponents I must pass

So with all I have left
I push my body to its limit
Knowing that to finish
I need to commit

At the last 100 meters
My legs begin to sprint
And as I speed to the finish
I know that this is it

With pumping arms
And pointed toes
I cross the line
And my smile glows.

My dog Phil ate my homework.
Oh! What will I do?
The project took a while,
And today’s the day it’s due.

My dog phil ate my homework.
But a little piece is left.
It says my book report,
In his stomach is the rest.

My dog phil ate my homework.
Mr. Jones would not believe,
An assignment of that size ,
Could be swallowed with such ease.

My dog phil ate my homework,
But now Im over that.
I finished my new paper,
And it’s inside my cat

When I need a laugh
There is no one there
When I cry
There is no one there
When I need support
There is no one there

Things were not always this way
But through web of lies,
My life turned upside down
Now I find myself alone in a jungle
Fighting for my life
With no one by my side
All because I lost my
Best friend.

Question #15:

The America Library of Poetry contest-trapped!?

I am so stupid. I bought the Inspired book because it said that my poem is being published in there. Then, after all of this, I heard if was a scam, not legit, and send everybody saying their poems will be published. What should I do?

Thanks.

Question #16:

poetic woes can you help?

well i just got an account at lulupoetry formerly poetry.com just so my poems can be anonamously read . and i feel that i am really good . a little rough around the edges but im relatively inexperienced. Ive won a few legit contest for writing essays and such in my home town and district . And well when i wrote my first poem (just recently) i felt something that i hadnt felt in a while , simple contentment knowing i had made something worthwhile (and this is a massive statement not only am i a GREAT literature critic but i am also my biggest critic) , this was the simple 6 year old getting a present from santa kind of contentment that has been lost to me for a lifetime . ANYWAY look, i AM looking for a handout . i want someone who has some sort of REAL knowledge of poetry and a real connection to the poetic world to read my stuff , be honest with me , and if they like it help me to get published somewhere by an anonamous pen name (as i for some reason am extremely self concious.) so someone please give me a contact email. Id do it on my own , but the reason why im inspired so much at the moment is becuz im in the depths of a depressant phase of manic depression and well i cant really do much of nothing other than what comes to me naturally
it IS a different ballgame i realize that , and grammar is subjective , you should know that . some of the best peices ever written both in poetry and novels/ what have you were written in a vernacular other than the norm .
oh and i know poetry.com is garbage , that is why i posted this question , otherwise id just keep on keepin on there .

Question #17:

How do I get my poem published?

I wrote a realy realy good poem but it's sorta sad and i can't find an poetry contests in my area. How can I possibly get it published. I want to send it to MADD cuz it's about drunk driving.

Question #18:

What do poetry contest judges look for?

What do they want you to write? I assume they want you to write something as conformist as possible, right? Original and independent thoughts should be left out of the works? I don't know, I'm really at a loss.

Question #19:

I am very nervous, worried and confused, please help!?

I'm a 17 year old female from venezuela and a native spanish speaker I'm moving (with my family) to houston on january because of my dad's job. I graduated from high school on july, and if I was going to stay in venezuela my career would have started around february next year.

Now I'm struggling quite a lot with american college applications, and just the general progress. I've already narrowed the colleges I'm applying to the ones in houston (private: rice, st johns, houston baptist and houston university).

A bit about my academic record:
-3.67 gpa (18.34 out of 20 in venezuela's grading system)
-IB Diploma (most rigurous curse available at my school):Got it with a 30 but got an A on my extended essay wich was about comparing maduration rates of bovine oocytes that were from different bovine breeds
-In venezuela you do not choose the subjects you want to study each year, you have an assigned curriculum, but you usually had 9-12 subjects per grade, so I've got from Maths, Spanish&Literature, English (as a foreign language) (5 years each), Biology, Physics, Chemistry (organic and not organic), Geography, Economical Geography of Venezuela, World History, Venezuelan History, Computer Science, Music History and more...
Art was a big deal in my school, we had art classes at least twice a week for all of the highschool years.
-I ranked 6th in my class of 65.
-Have more than a 100 community service hours (80 are required by the school)
-Co-Founded the school's delegation for model of United Nations (MUN)
-Went to multiple MUN events and won a "outstanding delegate" award
-I was the academic director of the organizational committee in the first MUN even that was hosted in the school
-Participated in multiple theater plays, from comedic performance to dance.
-There is an event in my school which is called the "Scientific Congress" wich lasts about 2 weeks every year. I took part of the "journal committee" and became a senior editor.
-I also participated in the museum, an exhibition in wich we did murals and sculptures related to the scientific congress
-I participated every year since I was in 1st grade of elementary on Literature Contests, ranging from Book Symposiums, Poetry Recital, Oratory and Original Short Stories. Every year got an award or two and when I graduated I got the "Wings of Creativity" prize because of my participation over the years
-I also got on graduation a diploma of arts and design, I am a decent painter but I think I got it because my design was chosen for the graduating class t-shirts

I am really worried about the following things:
1.- I never participated on sports teams at my school, I was decent at soccer, volleyball and basket but I didn’t even try out for the teams because I wasn’t that good.
2.- SAT’s: Never heard of those until recently, I’m really worried because I took the practice test on college board and I got a 1640 (CR: 610 M: 540 and W:490). It was quite hard because English is not my mother tongue, and there were many words (especially in the writing section) which I didn’t know the meanings of. Also in math there were some terms wich I didn’t know the meanings in Spanish. Still, I am really worried, I had never taken an exam like that (except for IB, but IB math was REALLY different, it was focused on longer problems and structured solving rather than filling a single box). I am planning on studying really hard because I was considered a really good student and got into rigorous curses like IB and got my diploma.

My dream college would be rice but I am really disappointed of my sat results, I got the test in 3 weeks and I don’t know how much I can improve.

Do you think I might be able to get in those colleges (Rice specially)? Do you think I can improve my sat score 200 points at least? (I am really disciplined once I set up a goal). What else can I do to make some foreign Venezuelan girl application stand out?

Anykind of feedback will be much appreciated, I am really worried and confused about this whole new process that I'm getting into and my sat scores being to low to get into the colleges I want.

Question #20:

Legit Writing Competitions for Youth?

So, basically, I'm looking to entering in a few writing competitions, whether they be poetry or prose. I know about the ones held in my local area, and I'm aware that Writer's Digest has contests as well, but I would really appreciate if you guys knew any where else that might hold a writing competitions for, preferably but not limited to, youth.

Also, on a side note, do colleges notice these things? Don't get me wrong; I'm entering because I love writing and genuinely want to do it, but perhaps this might benefit me later on, when I apply to colleges.

Please & Thank You =)
