Creative Writing - nyu creative writing Questions

Question #1:

Should I make my UC personal statement creative?

I've always been known as a "creative writer". All my essays have interesting hooks and twists. By that I mean they're really unusual, but in a good way. However, my english teacher advised me not to write this way for UC personal statements. He said that I should save the creative writing when writing personal statements for private schools like NYU. Is this true? What do you think?

Question #2:

What's Syracuse, New York and Syracuse University like?

Well now I'm changing my top college choices again, lol. I wanted to go to NYU but Syrcause did a presentation at my school and it sounds like a really great college. I'm planning on majoring in music and take a few creative writing classes. Anyways I live in houston (which I hate a lot) and I really wanted to go to NYU because of the hustle and bustle and the fast pace life of the city, but I just don't know what syrcause is like and I can't really find any information on it, plus I heard it was a slow down small town city, which doesn't sound like I would like it. Can anybody give me some insight on it?

Question #3:

College Questions (where to go, what to major, etc)?

Ok, I'm already going to an art school (like the school in Fame) and my specialty is creative writing. I'm really liking writing right now, and I'm really good at it, but I havent really tried anything else so I'd like to go to a college where I dont have to immediately state my major and could choose between a few different arts. I dont want to have a major college that I want to go to, because I'm afraid that if I pick one, I'll be disappointed if I dont get in. Rather, I'm going to apply to a bunch of schools and check out all of the schools I've been accepted to. I think I'm going to apply to NYU, UCSB (I know its been told to be a party school, but I can get a scholarship on their waterski team and the campus is really pretty), Yale, Columbia... ?? I need a few others. Any ideas? Also, I know that University of Iowa has a good writing program, but I really dont want to go to school in Iowa. Haha.

So, do you think that those schools are ok? BTW- this isnt about cost. Cost really isnt an issue for where I go to school. Oh, and also, I'm going to go on independent study for a semester-a year in Germany because I can go to school there for free. Would those schools allow that? I think most schools do, but I'm not sure. So, if you have any ideas for schools to add or take off my list? I dont really have a dream school, so you wont hurt my feelings if you tell me to take one off. Haha.

Oh, and one other thing that has always interested me is producing, like, movie and tv producing. What would you major in in college to get a job like that? Sorry, I know thats a lot of Qs, but I need answers!! Haha.

Thanks!! :)
Oh! And I want a school that offers sororities. I know that sounds kinda protentous, but I've always wanted to be in a sorority and my mom and my grandma were in one and it sounds like so much fun and I feel like it'll keep me grounded while Im there.

Question #4:

Creative Writing programs at specific colleges?

I'm a sophomore in high school and I was wondering if anyone knew of creative writing/writing programs at colleges such as NYU, columbia etc. mainly new york city. or, in total opposition, california likeUCLA or any good colleges that offer THE BEST writing enrichment programs for high schoolers during the summer.

if you know of any that also provide college credits would be a bonus.

Question #5:

Do I have any chance of getting into an ivy league school or NYU?

I want to be an editor in the future and I graduated in June with a combined BA honours in magazine publishing and creative writing (First class honours) from the University of Arts London and I'd like to continue my studies in the US because I may be getting an internship with Elle magazine. I'd like to do an MA in journalism.

I know these institutions are very prestigious so I was wondering if I had any chance at all.
I have no idea if these will help me since Im applying for a postgrad course but I always hear they would prefer students to have done some extracurricular activities;
I was student president of my class in my second year, I worked with my school newspaper in my third year and I speak three languages and I play the sax and violin.

Question #6:

How likely is it that this person is gay?

My family hosted some friends, and they brought a friend with them. This friend has a tight little dark-silver earring on his left ear. He's single, he teaches creative writing in NYU, and he lives in the Village.
How likely is it that he's gay?

Question #7:

Questions about applying to NYU.I want to apply to two of their schools (a double major),is this permissible?

I would like to attend the Stern School of Business (International Business major ) and whichever school offers a creative writing major.

How does the application process work ? (Unfortunately my computer is refusing to open it, at the moment) Is it one application if you are applying to two schools?

Thank you for all of your help !

Question #8:

What are the BEST Florida Film Universities or colleges?

I want to pursue a career in Film Directing and Cinematography (some screenwriting, creative writing, a bit of history), but my main focus would be Film. I've come up with a few colleges and universities which I'd like to attend, but most of them are out of state:
Temple University in Pennsylvania,
Boston University in Massachussetts,
Columbia University in New York,
Chapman University in Orange California,
Collumbia College Chicago in Illinois,
NYU, in New York,
University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Los Angeles,
University of Miami in Coral Gables,
University of Southern California (USC), in LA,
Florida State University, FL
Full Sail University, FL
Temple University in Philadelphia, Penn.

Well...there are quite a few which I've chosen, but from this list of universities, the ones that are located in FLORIDA I'm not too confident about their Film programs and PARTICULARLY whether they allow students to keep their rights to their films.
SO...I've had a hard time finding over the internet GREAT Film schools in Florida. Can anyone please help me and give me the name of some of the greatest Film Schools in Florida?

AND...

which of the universities from my list would you recommend the most and why?

THANKS!!!! :)

Question #9:

What do you think is the best college I could get into?

I'm a junior in high school and I dream of going to NYU, Georgetown or maybe Brown or any ivy league.
I currently have a 4.0 GPA, but it may be higher because I'm in two AP courses and two honors classes.
Here's my schedule: Chemistry, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP US History, AP Language and Composition, Psychology, Humanities, and Creative Writing.

I'm in Mu Alpha Theta (math honors club), Phi Alpha Theta (history honors club), Tutoring Club, Youth in Government, and I volunteer at the SPCA. I also am a dedicated piano student and I was in band and marching band for two years, but I quit to focus on academics.
Last year, I was ranked 63 out of 475 students.

What do you think?
Also, advice would be very useful.

Question #10:

Tips on college application process!?

I will be a junior this coming school year. My GPA currently is an 85%. I have played the flute since fourth grade and can speak Mandarin as a second language.

Teachers have noted me for my ability in creative writing. My try passion lies in painting though. I have not taken any outside classes for my art beside the ones offered at school.

My Mother graduated from Vassar and New England School of Optometry. My Father graduated from New York University and Boston University. My Mother is an optometrist and my Father is a lawyer.

I hope to some day have a career in the arts.

I want tips/advice as to how I can stand out to colleges. I have looked into NYU, BU, Brown, and the New School among others. Tips!?

Question #11:

Should I transfer to Nyu or should I not transfer to Nyu?

Ok, Im about to start college real soon and I have plans to transfer to nyu because I want to be a writer and I feel like NYU can give me the tools into being a very good writer and plus most colleges I research don't really have a major in creative writing only nyu with Gallatin School of Individualized Study but Im about to change my mind because I read in a website , studentsreviews.com, that NYU is filled with rich, superficial, arrogant, fake ass, materialistic, people(including the teachers) which is one of my pet peeve I can't stand people like that and I don't want to deal with that in a day-to-day basis if i decide to go there. I felt like I was reading about people from those dam shows gossip girls, NYC prep, the hills, Laguna beach and people there acting like the wanna be sex and the city. I made up my mind that I don't want to make friends there now it seems to me that I don't want to really make any friends. And for those of you who went to nyu I wanna know how many african americans are there and is there much diversity in NYU because I REALLY (REALLY) I do not want to be surrounded by spoiled ass rich white people. So should I not transfer there or not? cuz it seems to me that it' s gonna be a bad idea.

Question #12:

Chances for admission to NYU?

I have a 3.2 GPA. I want to be a journalism major and all of my english grades have been A's and B's all the way across from Eng 1 H to AP lit, and creative writing and yearbook. I've been on yearbook for 2 years. I'll be an editor next year. I'm on the newspaper on my virtual school, and I'm an intern at the St. Pete times in Florida. I got a 2230 on the SAT. 8 AP classes and more honors classes. The curriculum difficulty was averag (I went to 2 high schools, An A school and a D school (the one I graduated from where my grades were higher), I've played 2 varsity sports have been in 13 clubs, and have had 2 jobs and have almost 100 volunteer hours. What are my chances?
That GPA is weighted, with NO senior year classes in it (I'll be taking 5 AP classes.) I had one D freshman year and one F sophomore year. All of my other grades have been A's, B's, and I think Six C's.

I've taken nearly every AP course offered at my school.

Also, if you hadn't noticed, I'm hoping to major in Journalism. I want to double major in something else, but I'm not sure what at the moment.
I'm a legacy at a few of those schools, but I want to know if I can make it on my own accord.

My dad is British, both he and his parents went to Oxford.

My mom went to Yale, her parents went to Harvard and Columbia.

My older sister is graduating from Princeton next year, and my older brother is currently finishing up his freshman year at Columbia.
If it's relevant, I've been playing piano since I was six. I began the pre-college program at Juilliard when I was ten.

I've also taken voice lessons for the past eight years.

Question #19:

What's graduate and undergraduate mean?

I have a question about Graduate and Undergraduate for colelges/universities.
like for example... at NYU next to the creative writing it says "graduate"

what does that mean?

i'm looking for places where I could major in writing when i go into college as a freshman...

Question #20:

What kind of Colleges can I get into?

I'm only a Sophomore in High School, but i've been thinking a lot about college and which ones I can get into. Currently, my average is around a 94-95 (What's that on a 4.0 scale?) I'm taking 3 honors/enriched courses this year and next year AP History, Enriched Physics and English. Senior year I will take AP Writing or Literature, AP Biology and another AP history.

I'm a member of the Italian honor society, Italian Club, I have participated in the school newspaper and will most likely be in National Honor Society senior year. In addition, I play the guitar outside of school, I'm learning the piano and I write a lot. I'm also planning on playing Tennis next year for the school team. I'd like to go to school to double major in Journalism and Creative Writing.

Based on this, what kind of schools could I get into? My dream would be NYU, is this possible? Or maybe Boston University? Could I possibly get into schools like these or maybe even better?

Also, what can I do to better improve my chances of getting into these schools? Also, assuming my SAT scores will be great as i'm taking review classes and will continue to and my essay is amazing.

Btw, I live in New York and would like to go to a school in a major city with plenty of resources and internships available. I'm pretty open to suggestions as well.

Thanks so much.
