Creative Writing - creative writing ideas Questions

Question #1:

book lovers, does my story opening sound ok?

im writing a short story, mystery and im not very creative and would like to no if this idea sounds good so far

Old man Henry was a very mean old man. My parents told me how he built his own house in 1942. He was a skilled carpenter but had no patience for anyone who came around him. There is a rumor going around that on his very last job in the back woods, his boss threatened to fire him because some customers were unhappy with him, which didn’t bring in any more business. Well Henry was really upset and took his anger out on his boss, killing him and dumping his body in the river. Police knew it was henry but they had no evidence and had to let him go. Since then no one has seen the old man, everyone thinks that he just went into hiding at his house; some think he just died but no one is sure.

Question #2:

Help on GCSE Creative writing piece?

I can write very well, but struggling for ideas?

My teacher told me to end the piece with something along the lines of someone walks into the sea, but you don't know whether they've drowned themselves or gone for swim sorta thing.
I want to do this, but what do i write for the rest of the piece? Why would s/he walk into the sea?

I need something that can last for one A4 side.

I dont want any pieces of work you have done, or any from the internet because that would be wrong. But could anyone help?

Question #3:

Calling all creative people?

I need a headline for a story i am writing about for my school newspaper. basically the main topic is:
"Guitar Club"
I need an awesome, eye catching headline for it. Any ideas are appreciated!! thank you!! :)
It can really be any title... as long as it sounds cool and makes people want to read more about it. and of coures it has to relate to a guitar club, or maybe rock music in general if you would like :)

Question #4:

Holiday Journalism Prompt?

I am a student in a high school journalism class and the holiday edition of our paper is coming out soon. I need a creative and interesting article topic to write about that is somewhat related to Christmas or the holidays. Any ideas?

Question #5:

If you see this girl can you tell her where I am?

Alright, here's the deal. There's this girl, Jenny, that I dated for two months two months ago, and about a month after she broke up with me, which she had done a couple times before, because she was afraid of falling in love (Keep in mind she's 15 and has a lot of mood swings), I got a new girlfriend that she helped me find because she wanted me to be happy. Then a couple days after I started dating this new girl, Jenny called me in tears telling me how much of a mistake she had made letting me go. And no, she's not one of those extremely dramatic girls that just got jealous. So I told her, even though I would have loved to run back to her, it wouldn't be fair to my new girlfriend, so I was going to give her a chance, but Jenny still told me if things didn't work out she'd be there for me. During the relationship I still had strong feelings for Jenny and didn't have real feelings for the new girl, and beyond that she just wasn't a girl I could see myself with, considering I date to marry, not just for fun. So after three weeks I broke up with this girl, and talked to Jenny about if she was still there for me, and she said that as a friend she was, but she wasn't sure if she's willing to be anything more. So now it's been a week and a half since I broke up with the new girl, who's become good friends with Jenny, so Jenny doesn't want to hurt her by being with me. And Jenny's new plan is to not date until she's 16, which is in just under a year, and by that time I'll be mid-17. So as far as that goes, she told me there would be no exceptions except for me, but that was while I was dating the second girl. And now I'm left thinking I should still be with Jenny, but I don't know how she feels about it. Considering our song was kinda The Man Who Can't Be Moved by The Script ( Click Here ) I made a plan to make a sign that said "If you see this girl can you tell her where I am?" And have a picture of her, then at the bottom write, "'Cause I'm not moving." Does this seem like a good idea, or does it sound pathetic? I really have strong feelings for her and still think she's the one. I would never put so much thought and effort into something I didn't really care about, and I really need this to work, so I could use any help or creative ideas, or thoughts on the situation in general. Thanks for reading all my ranting and for any help you can provide :]
Thanks Casey :] And one thing I didn't mention is that she told me while I was dating the other girl that "After I hurt you so many times you were still the best boyfriend ever," which reassured me, but confuses me still because I know how quickly her mind can change, and I really want to fix everything.

Question #6:

Creative project presentation idea?

I have a project as a midterm. My teacher assigned it today and it is due tomorrow. We have to "write" a biography on our favorite "organism". I chose Jellyfish. When she means write, we can do anything creative that gives info about the animal, it's not an essay or report) We have to do research and planning it out tonight(I already have info, and I am a pretty good artist so I can draw), and tomorrow, finish it in school and hand it in. It's not difficult, but I don't know how I can present it. My teacher said we can do a poster, pamphlet, or diorama, anything we want! But I don't want to do that since everyone in the class is probably going to do the same, and I want mine to be different. So do you have an idea I can present my visual project? I was thinking of a picture pop up book or something. But I don't know. Can you please help me?

Question #8:

Question about a short story. Please help!?

For my Honors class, we have to write a creative short story, and basically every single other short story we write will be a continuation of the first. I think I have a good idea, but I could use opinions. Thanks. Here it is.

In a parallel world, animals all have the ability of speech and age like humans do (all though some may reach their full size faster than humans). In order to check the humans from pushing too far out into their homes, they gave each person one of their own for protection and companionship. People call their animal companions guides. A person's family history and class usually determines what creature will be given to them on their fourth birthday, the age when they are considered old enough for a guide. Someone' s father or guardian usually goes into the Wilds before their child's birthday to find a suitable guide for him/her. Some one with a domesticated animal as a guide is usually looked down on, as guides are supposed to be found in the Wild. A guide, with the same intelligence as an average person (sometimes more so), the ability of speech, and a long life span causes for it and its human to become very close, inseparable. It is a taboo to seperate the two for any reason.

People are seperated in to two categories: the Ziemians who live in independent, sprawling, walled cities separated by the Wilds and who all have land creatures as guides: and the Anganists who live in suspended, metropolises connected to each other by air-ships and who's inhabitants all have bird guides. The two usually don't associate with each other unless absolutely necessary.

I'm working on the plot now, but the foundation has to be good for the house to be built. What do you think of the basic info? Thank you

Question #12:

Writing an essay for Moby Dick, need some help?

The novel's setting/backdrop is the commercial exploitation of whales in the early 19th Century, a bloody, risky business comparable to war. This setting allows Melville to explore humans in a more natural setting.
In a well-organized essay, explain how Melville uses setting, plot, and theme to present ideas about Humans and their Relationship to Nature, and how he connects these ideas to his artistic/narrative purpose. You might consider using the following examples in your discussion: the descriptions of the whaling operation; the competition among the whalers; the final confrontation with Moby, the human-eating sperm whale; a comparison of Melville’s ideas and the transcendental view of Nature; and human interpretations of nature, including the superstitious, religious, metaphoric, and metaphysically (thought, creative expression, religious/spiritual expression).

I have to write a native american diary for a school project. I am supposed to make a creative cover for my diary and i have no idea how to go about doing that. My character is part of the chinook tribe and it takes place in 1860. any advice??

Question #14:

Painting our room... anyone have crazy or interesting... maybe traditional ideas?

Me and my sister share a room in our apartments. I'm 14, and she's 10.
Our parents said that we can agree on two different colors at most.--Of course, we live in apts, so it can't be too dark. -- We are, as I type, painting the dining room wall a deep maroon, which is pretty dark, but it isn't as far as black, which I'm sure we can't have (and aren't too interested in, anyway..)
Nnyway.. We've agreed on blue so far, but as for the second color... we're kinda at a disagreement. She wants white for blotching a ssponge here and there for a more cloudy and obscure texture. I, however, think that white is too plain and-- seeing as we started out with white since we got here, I'm pretty much sick of white. I'm for the light green, like the green color on the A.Y! webpage buttons with the lettering.. "ask. answer." and "discover." (The blue is ironically closer to the "contintue" or "Preview" and "edit" buttons on this website, as well... -like I have on my blanket. (And she also has that green in her blankets). We also have purplr, like almost a plum like purple, but more violet than a reddish. --not red at all, really..
I would like design ideas... she loves to paint and draw, and I love to read and write. We would like something inspiring to the both of us, that's comfy and relaxing. Something that writes "home" around the walls... seeing as apts aren't much of that...
I'm more on the "preppy" type-- not rude, or snobby, just more on the "girly" SIDE, but definitely NOT girly with the pink and the fluttery butterflies. More... bohemian-ish and almost earthy- if you know what I mean. My little sis, on the other hand, is almost on the tom-boyish side... but she still likes along the same colors as I do, and is definitely creative and imaginitive. She's definitely not straight up dirty, though, either. She likes light things, calming and fun... but we're open to any and every idea, crazy designs, cute ones, interestingly complex ones, allaying and inspiring... anything.
So, now you know a bit about us and kind of get the idea of what we're looking for. Anyone have any designs and/or color ideas for our room? (2 colors, please)=)
I would really appreciate it and am looking forward to everyone's ideas!!=D
Thanks so much!

Question #15:

Ideas Improve My Presentation?

Ok, so I need help for a presentation on Herodotus. In case you haven't heard of him he was a Greek historian. He traveled the world when he was young, and learned a lot about the cultures of the countries he visited. He then wrote the Histories, a book about the Greco-Persian war and the countries he visited. So... not the most interesting topic. However, I am focusing on the fact he said a lot of stupid things. (The Nile River was fueled by a melting glacier) I have currently made two power points: one on Herodotus himself, and one on the Histories. I am currently photo shopping pictures to make a digital book of the dumbest things he has said. However, I am still unsure. I pride myself on always having a cool, different and creative project, but have gone blank on this. Does anyone have ideas to jazz it up? Thank you so much!

Question #16:

Need help from anyone who considers themselves creative?

Okay so I have an interview for a university course, but I need a folio. I'm good at writing and editing and photography, so does anyone have any cool ideas / themes I could use? I love bright, exciting photography like the city at time time or graffiti but that's pretty generic. Also themes for short, one page stories or pieces of writing. I live close to the city and the beach so anything I can use any scene really.
I have 2 weeks to whip something up!
Thanks to anyone who answers.

Question #17:

What feeling do you get from these names and drawing?

I'm writing a fantasy genre story and so far these are the character names:
Leeta
Gizmo
Asella
Kyle and Tyler (Twins)
Kai (Main Guy)
Tess (Main Girl)

Here are some rough sketches of a few main characters:
Leeta & Gizmo: Click Here

Leeta: Click Here

Asella: Click Here

Leeta and Asella are sisters. Leeta is a year older than Asella, but acts immature compared to her younger sister. She is light and carefree, and excells in flexibilty and acrobatics in their clan. Asella is being trained to be an assassin and is a little darker and serious. She envys her sister for her talents and trys to excell at being an assassin to please the Empress Lysistra (the ruler of their clan/kingdom)

"Gizmo Bender" is a descendant of a long line of “Benders” in the clan. He takes great pride in being a mechanical genius/blacksmith. He has a great knowledge of engineering and can build almost anything. He has a crush on Leeta and is one of her main love interests throughout the story, although Leeta enjoys flirting with the twins Kyle and Tyler.

I'm trying to be creative with the names and looks. It boaders along earth and another dimension (similar to earth). I'm not sure what to name their planet or their "clan/kingdom" though, could anybody give me some ideas or inspiation?

And for the twins I want their nicknames to be Ty and Ky, but that sounds too similar to the main boy character Kai. I'm thinking of changing his name, but I don't know what to change it too, any ideas? Thanks!

Question #18:

Careers for an English major? And what should I minor in?

I'm a junior in high school and I've decided that I want to be an English major, but I have no idea what to do with it.
I've been told that I'm very skilled with using my words for persuasion. I love creative writing, I'm good at drawing (illustrations), and I'm a grammar freak.
My downfall is that I am not AT ALL a public speaker. I also don't want to become a school teacher.
I also want to write to change the world, as cliche as it sounds. I'm passionate about animals and human rights.

Judging from this:
1. What careers should I look in to?
2. What would be a useful minor?
3. What classes should I try to take in high school?

Thank you to anyone who bothers to read this!
I forgot to add that I love photography.
