Question #1:I need to write a sentence using materials creatively (rice, sticks, candy) ideas?for art class, I need to write a sentence or short verse using something in a creative way and take a picture of it. For example, in other classes people used sticks, matches, cereal, ketchup, rice etc...)Any ideas for something I could use to do this creatively? Question #2:How can I improve my narrative?Whenever I try to write some fiction, I always have a hard time narrating my story. I find myself stuck and I have a hard time explaining what's going on. I try to envision the scene as a movie and I cannot translate it onto paper. I try using the five senses technique, and I find my self saying "He smelled. . .he heard. . .he felt. . ." repetitively.I can't really seem to make it flow. And I also can't seem to describe actions in between dialogue without sounding repetitive. What are some tips to help me get over that? I've tried taking a creative writing class, but all I ended up getting was people ripping my story to shreds, swallowing it, shitting it out, and throwing it in a flaming tar pit. Question #3:Holiday Journalism Prompt?I am a student in a high school journalism class and the holiday edition of our paper is coming out soon. I need a creative and interesting article topic to write about that is somewhat related to Christmas or the holidays. Any ideas?Question #4:Anyway to cure writers block?I'm in a creative writing class and i just can't seem to get a story out of my head. I've started about 6 different stories all with different characters and plots but about half way down my first page I can't figure out what else to write. Can anyone give me some writing tips? Maybe something to spark my imagination? Question #5:Creative project presentation idea?I have a project as a midterm. My teacher assigned it today and it is due tomorrow. We have to "write" a biography on our favorite "organism". I chose Jellyfish. When she means write, we can do anything creative that gives info about the animal, it's not an essay or report) We have to do research and planning it out tonight(I already have info, and I am a pretty good artist so I can draw), and tomorrow, finish it in school and hand it in. It's not difficult, but I don't know how I can present it. My teacher said we can do a poster, pamphlet, or diorama, anything we want! But I don't want to do that since everyone in the class is probably going to do the same, and I want mine to be different. So do you have an idea I can present my visual project? I was thinking of a picture pop up book or something. But I don't know. Can you please help me?(i posted this on education hw help too. I thought this fit into both categories) Question #6:What is your opinion on taking a college course that will not count towards your major?I am currently an Early Childhood Education major at a local community college. However, last year I was an English Literature major with the intentions of transferring schools to major in English with a concentration in Creative Writing.Writing has ALWAYS been a passion of mine, and I would love to continue towards a major in Creative Writing, but it's not as practical of a major as Early Childhood Education. This upcoming semester, I want to take a few classes towards my major (Speech Fundamentals, Early Child Development, and Children's Literature [online]). When I was looking for a fourth class, I came across another online course that I would love to take: Creative Writing (along with Advanced Creative Writing the following semester). However, Creative Writing does NOT apply towards my current major. I am interested in pursuing a double major after I earn my associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, but I'm not 100% sure about that yet. What do you think? Question #7:Question about a short story. Please help!?For my Honors class, we have to write a creative short story, and basically every single other short story we write will be a continuation of the first. I think I have a good idea, but I could use opinions. Thanks. Here it is.In a parallel world, animals all have the ability of speech and age like humans do (all though some may reach their full size faster than humans). In order to check the humans from pushing too far out into their homes, they gave each person one of their own for protection and companionship. People call their animal companions guides. A person's family history and class usually determines what creature will be given to them on their fourth birthday, the age when they are considered old enough for a guide. Someone' s father or guardian usually goes into the Wilds before their child's birthday to find a suitable guide for him/her. Some one with a domesticated animal as a guide is usually looked down on, as guides are supposed to be found in the Wild. A guide, with the same intelligence as an average person (sometimes more so), the ability of speech, and a long life span causes for it and its human to become very close, inseparable. It is a taboo to seperate the two for any reason. People are seperated in to two categories: the Ziemians who live in independent, sprawling, walled cities separated by the Wilds and who all have land creatures as guides: and the Anganists who live in suspended, metropolises connected to each other by air-ships and who's inhabitants all have bird guides. The two usually don't associate with each other unless absolutely necessary. I'm working on the plot now, but the foundation has to be good for the house to be built. What do you think of the basic info? Thank you Question #8:College questions, need quick answers!?Okay;I live in Australia and am hoping to go to college in America, I know what classes I would be doing, Vocal Perfomance, Creative Writing, Journalism, and desgin. But can I actually do all those together? Also, are there any colleges, particularily in new york or california, that have anything to do with DJing? Also, any other information you think I should know, please let me know. Anything about living, or anything, would be great. xo thanks alot. Question #9:Careers for an English major? And what should I minor in?I'm a junior in high school and I've decided that I want to be an English major, but I have no idea what to do with it.I've been told that I'm very skilled with using my words for persuasion. I love creative writing, I'm good at drawing (illustrations), and I'm a grammar freak. My downfall is that I am not AT ALL a public speaker. I also don't want to become a school teacher. I also want to write to change the world, as cliche as it sounds. I'm passionate about animals and human rights. Judging from this: 1. What careers should I look in to? 2. What would be a useful minor? 3. What classes should I try to take in high school? Thank you to anyone who bothers to read this! I forgot to add that I love photography. Question #10:Help please? I want to write a creepy short story for my creative writing class? The story has to involve a box and TWO main characters of which neither can be dead.Whatever is inside the box will make one character unhappy and the other one well...very happy. It sounds like i can come up with something easy, but i want to write something creepy ... So what is creepy to you guys? What would you want to read a story about including all the things above? Thanks in advance ~Eden The "BOX" has to be in the story because it's a part of the assignment my teacher gave me.... :) Question #11:Help me with writing a mission statement for cupcake shop? These made-to-order cupcakes are unique in that they have filling--cookie dough, jelly, chocolate, caramel, etc. My group is writing a business plan for an entrepreneurship class and we have chosen to create this cupcake business. We sell gourmet cupcakes solely to direct-sellers (i.e. those who hold Avon, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, etc. parties/events) at affordable prices. Now, I am stuck on creating a mission statement for our company. I want it to focus on the unique aspect of the cupcake which is our competitive advantage, yet I want it to have a fun and enticing appeal at the same time! Any suggestions to get my creative juices flowing are much appreciated! Thank you!Question #12:Does getting university degrees in things like creative writing kill your love for the subject?I'm in the middle of an absolutely brutal class on formal poetry, and after a semester's worth of composing a poem a week, I worry that I am beginning to hate poetry itself (especially my own). I have a feeling that this will pass as soon as I get through the class and the deadlines and restrictions are lifted, but still... The burnout is worrisome.Anyone have any experience/wisdom in this sector? Thank you! Question #13:Should I apply to all of these universities and when are the deadlines?I am planning on applying to Columbia, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Berkeley and Georgetown (my safety). But is it too much, I'll only be going to one of them anyway. Which ones should I apply for, and when are the deadlines? My GPA is 4.0 and my SAT 2380, I am a straight A student and ranked #1. I've been published in local newspapers and received placings at national, and international writing competitions. I also came second in national drama competitions and first in regionals. I have done over 120 hours of community service and take younger classes at school for creative writing. For sport, in the school track team, I have gone to nationals. My interviews and essay have all been pretty good. So what schools do you think I have pretty much gotten into that I should apply for, and which should I pick for my 'reach'? Question #14:mild ADD or something else?During childhood I wasn't diagnosed with ADD, but maybe it just wasn't recognized. For important tests, I was usually the last one done with one of the best grades growing up. I also believed I was socially impaired, shying away from others, not speaking unless spoken to. Even when spoken to, I would say little. I was often in my own little world. But I do remember in younger years, being very happy, carefree and talkative (my family would often tell me to "press my mute button"). I would climb on furniture, my family, jump around (although I was very well behaved in school). Sometimes I would be too open with my words and receive odd looks from my friends and I wouldn't know why. My mind always seemed to be active and going off into many places, I'm a very creative person. If it wasn't for my parents I would of had problems with procrastination, now I'm in college and I have so much problems with late work and keeping on track. I often think assignments are bigger than they actually are and I put so much thought and effort into it (overdo) and think that if it's not good, then it's not worth turning in. I find myself spending hours on the computer researching things that interest me, trying to organize my room, doing little stuff that I've thought of doing or just thought up on the spot, while doing these, a different idea pops into my head and I go off and do that, etc. all the while knowing that I should be doing my work but having trouble with just getting STARTED and I get very stressed. I also underestimate the time it takes to do an assignment, often missing deadlines. It just doesn't seem appealing to my mind to work. I have always been a very messy and disorganized person. Even in my papers my ideas are scattered and I spend a lot of time trying to make everything flow. I have trouble with coordination (bad at sports, dancing, etc) and I occasionally (not all the time) bump into things, and my feet always feel very floppy, like i don't have control over them, although surprisingly I don't stumble all too often. I can't remember anything else but would all these be enough for me to get evaluated for ADD as an adult? Oh yeah, and another thing, whenever I really do try to pay my best attention in class nowadays, I find myself "zoning out" without myself realizing it (I only realize it after i've done it or while i'm doing it) and get angry at myself afterwards. It gives me headaches and my muscles tense up and my mind races all over the place. I have trouble taking notes, processing the information, shortening it to only the key points and then writing it on the paper. It seems that it takes my mind a bit longer to process information (like i said, it takes me a long time to finish tests, even though I do really well on them). So, what do you guys think? Professional or specialist feedback is highly requested. Thanks!Question #15:What is the penalty for perjury in Ontario, Canada?I am doing research for creative writing class and its a courtroom type story set in Toronto, Ontario, CanadaQuestion #16:Any ideas for theme or plot for a 10 minute play?I have an assignment to write a 10 minute play for my creative writing class. Right now I am out of ideas. It can be about ANYTHING. The only limitations is that there must be one single setting and of course, the whole course of the play has to take place in one day. I appreciate any ideas that you all offer. Thanks in advance.Question #17:How can I get my kids to participate in the after-school activities I have enrolled them in?Right now they have:piano, clarinet, guitar lessons spanish and french lessons squash, basketball, yoga for kids and on weekends my daughter has gymnastics and dance classes, my son has karate and boy scouts I want to enroll them in a new "Young Playwrights" course that begins next week which will help them with their creative skills and writing stories, but my kids give me a hard enough time attending the other activities! Any suggestions? NO, they have a lot of time to be "kids" and they currently have nothing planned after school on TUESDAYS & Fridays. Question #18:Readers: (2nd opinion) Would you buy a novel from an author that does not read often?I have been working on a novel for months, spending hours editing instead of just continuing the story, but a lot of things went through my head preventing me from working; common things that most authors go though while they write. One particular issue was whether someone would actually buy my work. I grew up with a big imagination, taking apart action figures and mixing them together and making my own stories in my head, and I always wanted to use my creative mind in a carrier. My first dream job was to work in game design, I had no idea which job I wanted as long as I was part of the team. I took three years of Drafting in high school, but after the third year I became board, which is when I decided to take Creative Writing. After that class I really could not stop writing. I know I keep rambling on, but I just thought I would give a little back story. Anyways, I am not saying that I hate reading, I enjoy seeing the stories in my head when I read instead of watching it, I just do not read constantly. I am not one of those people that read one book a week, every two weeks, or even every month, I simply read every now and then as research of to gain a bigger vocabulary. I love reading about supernatural history and Greek Mythology, I have an encyclopedia on it. I would rather read a short story by Edgar Allan Poe or a script than a novel sometimes, that way I could finish the story, I do not think there is anything wrong with that as long as I am reading something. So, back to the question, would you buy a novel from an author that does not read often as long as it is very well written? Question #20:Question on a book id like to write.?I have really good ideas for books I would love to write and already have tons of notes on one I want to write.
